Water of Ayr Natural Scottish Sharpening & Honing Stone - Long Sizes - CHOOSE YOUR HONE

NOTE: These are new hones, cut and lapped and labelled by us here at GSG from old stock raw stone blocks left over from mining done 50+ years ago. They are offered in large sizes never produced by the workshop, are lapped perfectly flat on one honing surface, ready to use immediately and have the vintage paper labels from the mine. Offered here are rare and celebrated Water of Ayr sharpening stones, a piece of history from the original workshop on the Dalmore estate in rural Stair, Scotland. In widespread use since the late 1700s if not before, the  Water of Ayr (WOA) provides an exceptionally precise finish with a grain size ranging from 9000 to 11,000. This charcoal-gray to black stone, resembling a black Escher, is traditionally used for razors and scalpels. It offers a silky soft feel during honing and is ideal for razor sharpening.

These are fully lapped by us on one surface and ready to use.
